We start our trip at 08:00 am from the Trans Resort Seminyak, drive up to Payangan village to the start point of Ayung River Rafting. It’s take us about 1hours and 30 minutes drive and finally we arrive at Payung Rafting the company provider for white water rafting at Ayung River. Friendly welcome by profesional rafting guide ,and we settup the payment when we are reach there and the price just 350.000 idr per person which is included lunch buffet, insurrance,and all facilities. The rafting is take us on adventuring on ayung river about 2 hours whitin 16km distance and along the way is passing true great tropical forest,waterfall and also big rock volcanic stone on river side. Leave the start point at 10:00am and reach at Finish point at 12 :00 noon and then we taking shower on fresh water with towel provided . Bali’s own Valley of the Kings is Gunung Kawi Temple in Tampaksiring. This collection of candi is beautifully situated in a river valley surrounded by rice fields and jungle. This has been one of our favorite day trips for years. Gunung Kawi Temple is a collection of ten candi, created to evoke the appearance of temple fronts and designed to provide residence for the souls of ancient kings. The candi are hewn into the valley walls on both sides of the Pekerisan River. The Gunung Kawi Temple does have an interesting history. Inscriptions over each Candi approximate the date of construction to be in the 11th C. It is believed that each temple served as a memorial to a deified royalty principally because they are shaped like the burial towers, or Candi’s, found throughout Central Java. But in Java they are free standing whilst those found at Gunung Kawi are actually hewn relief’s in solid rock. While the exact origin of the candi is unknown, there is evidence to suggest that the first set of five were built to honor King Anak Wungsu, whose rule over central and east Bali extended from AD 1050 to about AD 1080. It is possible that one was built for him and the other four for his wives, who would have ceremonially committed suicide after his death

Gunung Kawi Temple is two rows of ancient royal tombs on the banks of the Pakerisan River deep in a ravine overlooked by terraced rice-fields. The holy Pakersian River flows through the centre of Gunung Kawi cutting the site into two separate sections with a bridge to connect one side to the other. It is believed the holy waters of the Pakerisan sanctify Gunung Kawi, and the beauty of the place evokes a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere.
On the east side of the river are situated five candi which constitute the main group in this complex. Across the bridge are four candi on the west side. The remaining candi at the southern end is often referred to as the ‘tenth tomb’. At the bottom of the stairway and to your right-hand side through a small field (about one kilometer) is where the tenth tomb is located. The legend to this amazing place is intriguing. It is believed that the mythical giant Kebo Iwo carved out all of the ancient tombs in one night with his fingernails. There are 3 temples which so called the name as Gunung Kawi in Bali those are Gunung Kawi in Sebatu countryside, Gunung Kawi Temple in Keliki countryside and Gunung Kawi Temple in Babitra countryside. Behind the small temple you can find a couple of meditation caves, which indicates that this is a pre-Hindu place where monks and pilgrims came together to meditate.

Gunung Kawi Temple Location

Gunung Kawi Temple is located near Tampak Siring village, around 5 km from well known Tirta Empul Temple. The location is 35 km from Denpasar, city, 50 km from Kuta, and 68 km from Nusa Dua. It is still one route from Goa Gajah, Pura Pusering Jagat, Gunung Kawi Temple, and Tirta Empul Temple . This area preserves many ancient sites, stone sculptures and rock cut structures, especially along the slope of Pakerisan river. The site of Gunung Kawi Temple is reachable only by foot from the parking area, passing elevating slope of the river with more then 100 steps down and up the river. It is just after the village of Pejeng, a village full with ancient remains of ancient stone sculptures, and even the oldest historical fact on Buddhism is found also around this village. Today due to the rich contains in historical fact a museum has been built before the village of Pejeng, near the temple of Kebo Edan. Within the village of Pejeng to mention a few of them there are some temples with ancient heritages such as Pura Pusering Jagat, Pura Rejuna Metapa, Pura Kebo Edan, Pura Samuan Tiga, Pura Bedugul Kana, and still many other smaller temples that preserves the ancient stone sculptures. Pejeng is a real historical museum.

Gunung Kawi Historical Monument

If we see from the name we know today, it might be the possibility of translation Mountain as a Gunung and Kawi as poet, so gunung Kawi can be meant the mountain of poet. The river that forms the ravine which slope is cut for the temple is Pakerisan river, kris means Balinese long blade or knife. What is actually referred by the name is not clear until now. The people today consider this complex as part of a temple which was constructed much later time. See from the history it is not part of a temple in the meaning of worshipping the Hindu God, but having the relation with personal deification of a king. The whole complex consist of 5 smaller complexes, and including the temple are 6 complexes. Two complexes at the east slope of the river and 3 complexes are on the west slope. Two complexes facing each other separated by the river are identified as belong to the king and his Queen or concubines. The complex for the king consist of 3 rock cut candis and the complex for the Queen consist of 4 rock cut candis. It is hard to understand that only the candi for the king made in 3. It might be the king was with his 2 principal consorts, and the 4 candis across the river were only for his other concubines. At the door of the candi for the king is mentioned in a inscription of the king died at Jalu. Jalu can mean kris or taji, a sharp small blade armed for the cock fighting. Who was the king monumentalized here? is un-answered question until now, except based on highly decorative writing of inscription called “Quadrangular Kadiri writing style” The influence of Kadiri kingdom to Bali was only arrived around 1227 AD under the king Kertanegara. While the date carved at the stone sculpture on Mount Panulisan with the same style mentioned the dates 1011 AD, 1074 AD, and 1077 AD. While the period between 989 AD to 1001 AD was the rule of king Udayana Warmadewa with his Queen Mahendradatta. In their charters it is mentioned that king Udayana was deified at “Banyu Wka”, and his Queen Mahendradatta was deified at Buruan which is already identified, and only Banyu Wka is not identifiable until today, and archaeologists supposed that Banyu Wka is Gunung Kawi, as Banyu means water, and Wka means clear or clean, so he must have been deified at a river with very clean water, yet an ancient monument just renovated is Pura Mangening which also refers the name of ening or clear. The problem is the complex of the temple is not big, only one stone shrines with small zone. If we compared with his Queen monument in Buruan it makes sense that the king would not need big complex to commemorate himself. So who was monumentalized at Gunung Kawi? Some archaeologists believed that was the son of Udayana, either king Marakata Pangkajasthana or Anak Wungsu. The rule of Marakata is not known much and there is not many record about his government. Different from Anak Wungsu who issued many inscriptions and he was a diligent king in making every records which lead an idea that he was a great king just like his father king Udayana. With the length of time of ruling that was from 1049 AD to 1077 AD can be a proof that during his rule the condition of the society was good, and it was not impossible he was respected by their whole people. As the fact of many great king in Indonesia that commemoration with candi or sculpture was a normal way the people to honor their king who was able to bring the welfare for the society. In this case writer wish to believe that Gunung Kawi Temple has been dedicated for the great name of king Anak Wungsu.

Seminyak to Bali Ujung Water Palace which by the local people is called as Taman Soekasada Ujung, was built in 1919 the launching of this complex of water palace was performed in 1912 and inaugurated in 1921 by the King of Karangasem which at first used for resting place and for entertaining important guests such as kings or the Chief Executive foreigners who visited the kingdom of Karangasem.

I Gusti Bagus Jelantik then titled Ida Anak Agung Anglurah Karangasem was the last king who ruled the East Bali from 1909 until1945. Ujung Water Palace is a beautiful park with big fish pond surrounds the old Karangasem Empire heritage building which is used by the Karangasem’s King for day relaxation or meeting place in their era. It is located in Ujung Countryside about 5 Km from Amlapura town. This park is originally met one pool only which is very Ghostlike and very secret called by Di Dirah and this pool at the period of I Gusti Gede Putu King (1849-1893) governance with his brother of Gede Oka (1849-1890) that the around of this pool is functioned as place of exile for the man who alleged to run the black magic (leak). At the period of I Gusti Bagus Jelantik governance which start to lead the Karangasem Kingdom in the year 1909, this pool area is extended and developed by some pools and also luxury building Bale Gili with European style (modern style), later then it is given the name called Taman Sukasada / Sukasada Park Ujung Karangasem and known as a Ujung Water Palace, that is estimate made in the year of twentieth.

Ujung Water Palace is strategically located in the coastal side, south part of Karangasem town and founding a lot of wellspring around the area. If seen from the history aspect, most of all omissions from Karangasem Empire both for Lombok Island and also exist in Bali, altogether area consisted by the pool and Gili building which is exist in the middle of pool like Mayura and Narmada Park which are existing in west part of Lombok Island.

However, the recovery effort had been performed to bring back the glory of this complex of water palace by holding a reconstruction and revitalisation project on it. Although it is not as great as it was, the amaze of the past still can be seen here this moment.

We can say that this Ujung Water Palace as a mascot of tourist destinations in east part of Bali because Sukasada Park has been recognized until foreign countries since twenty’s year and more famous again in the year of thirtieth when all foreign tourist start to pay a visit to Bali. King of Karangasem I Gusti Bagus Jelantik who is known as Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem is a Statesman, Man of letters as well as an architect. He has created a lot of building not even in the form of park but he also done some building which are exist in Puri Agung Karangasem (Karangasem Palace) like gateway which is looking like pagoda.

Ujung Water Palace is located in Ujung Countryside lies at Tumbu village, south part of Karangasem regency or about 2, hours from Bali’s International Airport. From Denpasar Town, we have to take the highway of Ida Bagus Matra’s Street and go to the east part of Bali until arrive at Karangasem town. The journey will take about 2 hours and turn right to the south part of Karangasem town. First i would like to say thank you to Shan Go Phie and friend from Singapore to choice my service to provide sunrise transport in seminyak. Yes, we start our journey at 01.00 am from Seminyak and drive up to the north within 2 hours drive we made it to arrive at the start point trekking at Batur Volcano.

Arrive on the dark time arround 03.15am , friendly guide welcome us on their basecamp. And here we have to purchase the Guide services to do trekking at Batur Volcano with Guide Price 400.000 idr per person of us and that is included Breakfast, Donation , taxes, insurrance,also Guide fee. Its writen on board information that the price is valid from 1st January 2016 until 31st December 2016. And also there is a rule every guide has maximum companion with only 4 person guest. We our group more then 4 person, then we have 2 person of trekking guide services at the time we are there.

The guide provide us all the facilities we need as a torch or flash light, glove, rain code, also the stick for help us to walk on rock side. We start the trekking at 03.20am and walk slowly, the temperature getting coulder after view hundred meter we walk up so lucky we prepare jacket and heater and for you don’t miss the jacket for sure, put jacket on your first list. And after walk up and adventuring the rock , finally we reach at the top and the view was so amazing. The guide was prepare us a Eggs and he cook it on the natural steam hold from the volcano. And within 5 minutes the eggs was cooked and we enjoy it very much also our hot coffee and tea on the sunrise.

After the beautyful sunrise , and the sun getting heat we walk back to basecamp. With total time iam accounted, trekking up to the top is take us 2 hours and 30 minutes and walk down back to the base camp is take us about 2 hours and total of our trip adventure on Batur volcano on beautyful sunrise time was 4.5hours.

Fell not enough just enjoy the sunrise , we decided to jump at the Natural hot spring on the bottom volcano Batur. Its an Natural hot spring water, from the active Volcano Batur, and the local village has managed the natural hot spring water become amazing attraction on beside of the Lake Batur. And with super amazing view the local called Toya Devisya. The entress fee to enjoy the amazing hot spring water with the price 150.000 idr per person and the ticket we can purchase on the front desk. And the ticket price is included welcome drink, towel,also the access to use the sunchair.

After we enjoy the Hot Spring we continue our trip on the afternoon to have lunch at the view point of Batur volcano , we pick the good location restaurant where is pointed on over looking to the amazing breattaking view of Batur Volcano and lake Batur after refreshing at Hot spring water.

The restaurant is call grand puncak sari has this view, the food here was fantastic and is serve with buffet with only 100.000 idr per person with menu indonesian food and western food. We allowed to have everything we like to eat. Fruit salad was fantastic i love it.

After lunch we continue our trip to visit the Bali Coffee plantation, well located on the hill of kintamani , friendly farmer was welcoming us to their farm and also showing us how the process coffee on traditional way with out any machine and also the farmer give us a chance to try the original product they make as famous one is call Luwak Coffee and also the arabica coffee and the farmer also provide us a tea and chocolate we pick directly from the the tree.

After visiting the coffee plantation at Kintamani Village, we continue to our last stop at the popular rice terrace in north of Ubud. Local call it Ceking rice terrace located in Tegalalang village but mostly tourist call it Tegalalang Rice Terrace, yes its the same and it just different name :-). And at this time we are lucky that the rice terrace was so green and it served us an amazing panorama .

Just beware with the shop attendant here , because is kind of they are little agresive when they try to sale some thing for you and the key is just say “Tidak Terimakasih ” which is mean no thank you.
